The Medical Management of CBRN Casualties Training within the Counter WMD Security Cooperation Engagement Program

On 2-10 March 2023, the experts of the Defense Threat Reduction Agency’s Counter Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) Security Cooperation Engagement Program conducted a 6-day Medical Management of Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Casualties training at the Lusakert Training Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MoIA). The training was delivered to 24 representatives of the Rescue Service of the MoIA.

The purpose of the training was to provide basic knowledge and skills to identify chemical and biological threat agents, to manage casualties of chemical and biological agent exposures and to deliver basic life support in emergencies. Besides the theoretical part, the training also consisted of a practical component. It was based on a mass casualties scenario, for which 15 volunteers from MoIA were additionally involved. The practical exercise allowed the participants to practice the principles of personal protection, triage, treatment, and decontamination of chemical casualties, using the DTRA delivered training kits and equipment.
