INL enlisted experts from the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (MPSCS) and from the U.S. Department of Justice to deliver anti-corruption training in Yerevan. The training sought to bolster Armenia’s capabilities to identify, investigate, and prevent corruption in correctional institutions and was delivered in two phases – both phases combining practitioners and policy-makers. The first phase focused on proactive management strategies that senior prison officials could use to deter staff corruption, while phase two focused on helping investigative staff to develop strong cases for prosecution.
