From October 22 to 27, the International Narcotics and Law Enforcement (INL) Office of the U.S. Embassy in Yerevan sponsored the participation of two representatives from the Armenian Ministry of Justice to attend the 19th Annual International Corrections and Prisons Association (ICPA) Conference in London.
The annual conference is the largest international gathering of its kind, bringing together more than 700 professionals from prisons and correctional institutions from around the world. The theme of this year’s conference was “Innovation in Rehabilitation: Building Better Futures.”
The Armenian participants attended sessions on innovative approaches, ideas, and technologies for the rehabilitation and reintegration of prisoners. They used this opportunity to exchange views and experiences with their global colleagues, and to meet with INL representatives based in Washington to discuss the challenges Armenia faces in this field, and how they could use what they had learned upon their return to Armenia.
This event supports Armenia’s efforts to modernize its law enforcement and corrections sector. It also supports INL’s global goal of keeping Americans safe at home by countering international crime, gangs, and illegal drugs abroad by reducing recidivism of prior offenders through rehabilitation and reintegration programs.
