The U.S. embassy has been involved in a project together with Project Harmony, conducting a teacher training workshop that will help create a conversation with Armenian youth about social inclusion and disabilities. Fifty teachers are participating in the workshops, which incorporate lesson plans based on book. Wonder is about a boy with a severe facial disfigurement and the challenges he faces when he enters a public school after being home-schooled his whole life.
The “It’s a Wonder-ful Life” project was initiated and is funded by the U.S. Embassy and is implemented in partnership with PHI. It consists of several stages: Book Translation into Armenian; Curriculum Development; Teacher Training Workshop; Discussions with 14-16 old students in 50 high schools all over Armenia; and an Art Contest Inspired by Wonder. At the end of the project the teachers and schoolchildren will be invited to a Youth Summit to finalize the project.
