The U.S. Embassy in Yerevan informs U.S. citizens residing in Armenia of two public demonstrations in Yerevan planned for Saturday, April 9, 2016 and Sunday, April 10, 2016. U.S. Embassy employees have been advised to avoid the area.
Saturday – April 9, 2016
On April 9th at 1900 hours, a demonstration has been called to be held in Republic Square. Roads and the surrounding areas will likely be congested.
Sunday – April 10, 2016
On April 10th at 1900 hours, a demonstration will begin at Shahumyan Square and move to Yerablur Military Cemetery. While the route has not been formally announced, one of the possible routes is in front of the Embassy and could affect entry and exit. Roads and the surrounding areas will likely be congested.
Expect delays in the vicinity of these demonstrations. Citizens planning to arrive to Yerevan during the demonstration time may want to consider adjusting their travel plans accordingly.
We remind U.S. citizens that even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can become confrontational and turn violent. Citizens should exercise caution if in the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests, or demonstrations, or avoid them if possible.
