A large demonstration is expected to be held today on Wednesday, May 27, 2015, beginning at 7:00 PM. The participants are expected to march from the Opera House on Sayat Nova and Abovyan, to Independence Square, then along Amiryan, Mashtots, and back to the Opera House. Police estimate as many as 3,000 protesters will participate. Due to possibly problematic traffic conditions, Embassy employees have been advised to avoid the downtown area during the rally.
Even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence. You should avoid areas of demonstrations, and exercise caution if in the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests, or demonstrations.
