The U.S. Embassy in Yerevan alerts U.S. citizens in Armenia that a demonstration is planned for today, September 11. The demonstration will begin at 6:00 PM in Freedom Square, near the Yerevan Opera House. The organizers have announced that they will march along the following route in Yerevan:
From Freedom Square north-west on Marshall Baghramyan Ave towards 26 Marshall Baghramyan Ave (near Lovers Park).
Embassy staff have been advised to avoid these areas during this event.
Even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence. You should avoid areas of demonstrations, and exercise caution if in the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests, or demonstrations.
U.S. citizens traveling abroad should regularly monitor the U.S. Embassy’s website, and the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Consular Affairs website, where the current Worldwide Caution, Travel Warnings, Travel Alerts, and Country Specific Information can be found. The U.S. Embassy also encourages U.S. citizens to review “A Safe Trip Abroad,” which includes valuable security information for those both living and traveling abroad.
We strongly recommend that U.S. citizens traveling to or residing in Armenia enroll in the Department of State’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP). STEP enrollment gives you the latest security updates, and makes it easier for the U.S. Embassy to contact you in an emergency. If you don’t have Internet access, enroll directly with the U.S. Embassy. We invite you to follow us on Twitter and Facebook, and encourage you to visit our website to subscribe to our “Messages for U.S. Citizens” RSS Feed. You can also download our free Smart Traveler app, available through the iTunes store and the Google Play store, for travel information at your fingertips.
