American citizens may apply to Vital Statistics departments throughout the United States to request certified copies of birth, death and marriage records. The U.S. Embassy cannot apply the apostille stamp or certify any vital record or other official document issued in the United States. Apostille stamps must be obtained from the state that issued the document.
